In 2012, they welcomed a third daughter. In 2018, the family moved to the Town of Peace River and it’s been home ever since.

In 2014, he transitioned from the oil field to pursue urban planning, and in 2018 he started his planning career with the Mackenzie Municipal Service Agency (MMSA), helping shape land use and development policies across the Peace Region. Today, he serves as a Project Manager with Mercer in Peace River.

Yemi is actively involved in practical community service, including volunteering for highway and community clean-ups, and supporting various local initiatives through his church. Additionally, he currently serves as a committee member on the town’s Municipal Planning Commission (MPC). In this role, his professional expertise in planning and community development enables him to contribute to making informed and impactful decisions regarding Land Use for the town of Peace River.

Yemi’s Platform

His Vision

Yemi envisions a Peace River where:

  • residents can live, work, play, and learn within the same community;

  • equality, respect, and belonging are upheld;

  • differences are valued without judgment based on beliefs or background; and

  • every voice has the right to be heard.

His Values

Yemi’s values are:

  • Equity and Inclusion: Everyone deserves to belong in a community where barriers are removed and differences are respected.

  • Transparency and Accountability: Trust comes from openness, fairness, and clear decision-making.

  • Community and Participation: A strong community is built when people feel connected, safe, and empowered to shape the future together.

These values emphasize building a fair and welcoming community where everyone belongs, ensuring openness and accountability in all decisions, and empowering residents to actively participate in shaping the future together.

Yemi’s Priorities

Security

Peace River is a wonderful community, but we cannot ignore the fact that safety especially in the downtown area is becoming a growing concern. Increasing petty crime, often linked to homelessness and inadequate social supports, is affecting both residents and businesses. I believe we need a balanced approach. In an effort to enhance community safety, I will advocate for supports for people experiencing homelessness and addiction by strategically working with the regional municipalities and the province to provide additional accountability around transition planning for those being discharged from the Peace River Correction Center. As your voice, I will advocate to:

  • Strengthen community policing and ensure visible law enforcement presence.

  • Partner with local organizations to provide better mental health, addiction, and housing services for vulnerable residents.

  • Improve lighting, public spaces, and safety infrastructure in high-traffic areas.

We must protect our businesses, families, and visitors while also addressing the root causes of crime.

Inclusion

The Town of Peace River thrives when everyone feels welcome, respected, and heard. Our diversity of cultures, backgrounds, and experiences is one of our greatest strengths, and it’s something we should celebrate and build upon. As a resident or stakeholder in this town, you deserve to have a voice in the decisions that directly or indirectly impact you, and to understand how those decisions are made clearly. That’s why one of my top priorities on Council will be transparency and citizen engagement.

But transparency also means being responsible with your tax dollars. I believe in excellent fiscal management, ensuring that every dollar spent by the Town delivers real value to the community, with long-term planning and accountability at the core of every decision. As your Councillor, you will always get my attention. I will:

  • Advocate for inclusive programs and policies that ensure equal access to services, jobs, and opportunities.

  • Foster open communication between Council and residents, so all voices are part of the decision-making process.

  • Support cultural events, youth programs, and initiatives that strengthen community bonds.

An inclusive Peace River is a stronger Peace River, one where everyone belongs and can contribute to our shared future.

Economy

Peace River needs a stronger economy that supports families, helps local businesses grow, and gives young people real opportunities to build their future here. A stronger, more resilient economy is the engine that drives community growth and long-term development. To get there, we need to attract new investment, create good jobs, and make it easier for small businesses to succeed. Tourism is one area where I believe we can do much more. By promoting Peace River’s natural beauty, outdoor activities, and cultural diversity, we can bring more visitors into town, support local shops and restaurants, and keep our downtown active. As your Councilor, I will:

  • Push for reduced red tape and streamlined permitting to make it easier for local businesses to start and grow.

  • Work with regional tourism boards to promote our attractions and encourage seasonal festivals and events that draw people to the Peace Region.

  • Partner with Indigenous Nations, chambers of commerce, and community groups to strengthen cultural tourism and community events.

Together, we can build a vibrant, thriving Peace River—one that supports our families, celebrates our community, and attracts visitors who want to experience everything our town has to offer.
